MY GOALS

            To provide developmentally appropriate activities designed to develop your children to the fullest extent through movement, physical fitness, team sports, and individual and dual participant activities.

 

MY RESPONSIBILITIES

            To assist students in developing to their highest physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual potential.

            To provide safe physical activities through games, dance, and sports for Kindergarten – 8th grade students.

            To encourage in students an understanding about the value that Physical Education plays in relationship to a healthy productive life.

 

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

            To come prepared for class with proper PE uniform – gray St. Patrick shirt, and black          

             St. Patrick shorts and sneakers

            To participate with a Christian like attitude in all PE activities

            To follow the school and class rules and regulations

 

STUDENT BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Follow all of the behavior rules outlined in the parent-student handbook
  • Be where you are supposed to be, and on time
  • Be prepared and on task in class
  • Respect the rights and responsibilities of your fellow classmates
  • Strive for excellence
  • Wear the proper PE uniform

 

HOME RESPONSIBILITIES

            Make sure children have their PE uniform on their required PE days

            Provide a written excuse if your child can not participate in PE – more than three days requires a doctor’s note

 

HOMEWORK RESPONSIBILITIES

            Occasionally homework will be assigned, including a student project.  The assignment is expected to be turned in on the due date unless the student is absent.  If absent, the student will be expected to turn in the assignment on the day that he/she returns to school.

 

 

GRADING POLICY

            Student grade is determined by the following criteria:

1)      participation (uniform and effort), 2)  written and/or skills test, 3)  attitude and

conduct

 

The following criteria must be met in order to receive a grade of:

Satisfactory plus (S+)

  • student must dress out promptly for PE
  • student always actively participates with a positive attitude
  • students may forget their uniform  zero times
  • student  receives passing grades on written and/or skills tests

Satisfactory (S)

  • student must dress out promptly for PE
  • student primarily participates with a positive attitude
  • students may forget their uniform two (2)  times
  • student  receives passing grades on written and/or skills tests

Needs Improvement (N)

  • student wastes time in the locker room
  • student’s attitude is not primarily positive
  • students may forget their uniform three (3) times
  • student receives passing grades on written and/or skills tests

Unsatisfactory (U)

  • student wastes time in the locker room
  • student’s attitude is not positive
  • student forgets his/her uniform four (4) or more times
  • student receives low or failing grades on written and/or skills tests

 

COMMUNICATION

            Physical Education and sports information is sent home in the school newsletter, which is distributed bi-monthly.  Occasional flyers are sent home to announce the start dates of the various sports seasons and practices.  PE grades are included on the school wide progress reports that are sent home on September 29th , January 14th , and April 22nd .  Report cards are distributed each trimester.  Kindergarten receives report cards beginning with the second trimester.

 

CURRICULUM

            The Physical Education curriculum at St. Patrick Catholic School is mandated by the Diocese of St. Petersburg.  Grade level standards and benchmarks are used in creating developmentally appropriate lesson plans.

 

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

            Boys and girls in grades 5-8 are eligible to participate in volleyball, soccer, basketball, track and field, baseball, and softball.
