This Week In Band:
CONGRATULATIONS to all who participated in the Christmas and Grandparents Day music performances!! Everyone did a fantastic job and our hard work really showed! As we continue learning musical concepts and applying them to our instruments, we will be focusing on getting ahead on our pass-offs and begin preparing for our Spring concert performance, which will be on Thursday, May 10th, 2012 at 7pm.. Please keep practicing your music! And check the calendar link at the top for details about our next performance!
Class Description and Important Info:
Students in band will not only learn how to play a musical instrument, but they will learn how to perform together as an ensemble, gaining an appreciation for making music and performing as well as learning group and leadership skills. Music is co-curricular, so expect to be learning across the board as we get into a wide variety of repertoire.
Every instrument/part is just as important as the next. As a group, it is vital that everyone put forth their best effort and be in attendance for rehearsals and performances. The success of the band depends on it! A football team cannot win the game without every player, and the same is true with a band!
All students are graded on effort, not ability; however, most will be surprised at what they can accomplish when they try!
Instruments may be purchased or rented from your local music store (see links on the right), or rented from the school (first come first serve). Please see Mrs. Lynch if you have a financial concern.
Private lessons are strongly recommended. There’s only so much a student can learn about their instrument in a class with one teacher full of many other instruments. Private lessons offer individualized instruction improving playing techniques and musicality for your child. Any student who takes private lessons on their instrument outside of school will be able to count their lesson time as practice time for their grade in band. See Mrs. Lynch for private teacher recommendations.
Beginning band students who continue with band into Middle School will be eligible to participate in events such as Solo & Ensemble, All-State and All-County Auditions, and Music Performance Assessment competitions.
